Cairnsy to quit (apparently)

Talking to Matt Withers, the Leader of the Opposition at Cardiff Bay reveals that he's still sticking by his u-turn on who's to blame for the failure of a rainbow coalition.

Tht's hardly surprising. But what did raise at least one of my eyebrows is the news that Alun Cairns will be quitting Cardiff Bay, or at least that seems to be what Bourne is implying.

Asked whether the Assembly is only a stepping stone for prospective Tory MPs, Bourne answers:

"If it’s a perception held by a lot of people I think it’s wrong. It would concern me a little bit if it were true.

“David has gone, he always made it clear that he wanted to go to Westminster. I think it was valuable for him – and for us – that he was here.

“Alun, again, has always made it clear that was his objective. He’s been terrific here, I’ll be very sorry to lose him when he wins, as I’m sure he will do."

According to Mr Bourne, some Tory AMs apparently don't know whether they're coming or going:
"Jonathan Morgan has changed his mind, which I’m very pleased about. Jonathan initially wanted to be here, then he changed his mind and thought about running for Parliament, and now he’s convinced this institution is going to be so important, an important part of public life, so he’s to be here."

Jolly good show, what?

Biggles would have approved!
All he needs to do for Westminster is to grow the handlebar moustache.

you are making too much of this sanddef. It is very good for Welsh democracy if individuals move from one level of government to another. I am really pleased that Jonathon Evans is seeking to return to Westminster - and someday he might return to Cardiff Bay. I too that hope Alun Cairns wins the Vale of Glamorgan. I feel sure that if we had more representation at Westminster, there would be individuals wanting to move the other way.

I don't see what the problem is either. I think AMs/MPs should stand down from one institution as soon as they can after entering another.

I agree, but I don't agree with standing for an institution that you intend to leave as soon as the opportunity arises.

I agree with you. Personally i think the Assembly is now far more relivant to the daily lioves of the welsh public than westminster and will only become more so as further power is devolved. I don't see how you can claim to take the institution seriously if it is only used as a platform to launch a bid as an MP!
