ITV's Sharp End recently suggested there's some talk that Rhodri Morgan should step down this year rather than next year. I don't see any real logic to this myself, and the only examples of such 'talk' that I've come across are a couple of anonymous comments on the Welsh blogosphere, which makes me wonder about ITV standards more than anything else. Still, I've placed a poll in the sidebar on whether Rhodri should stay or go. You decide.

I agree to be honest comrade, i have heard any credible evidence of this view, or even the real benefits of taking this view.
There should be such thing as earning the right to bow out with grace, even in politics. The welsh assembly will lose its only face with the public, which will mean it will be even harder to highlight the work down the bay. Forcing Rhodri to fall on his sword is not the correct way to do it.
the situation with Rhodri Morgan and Plaid Cymru looks exactly like the situation in Northern Ireland when Ian Paisley stepped down, his most vocal supporters were his old enemy Sinn Fein and those on his own side DUP were his loudest critics.
Plaid Cymru know they have made a mistake with the Coalition and are scared of who might come next, not least because of the failure to deliver on key policies like the referendum and Y Byd, so you are cheerleading for Rhodri to stay at all costs despite the damage both he, Labour and Plaid Cymru are doing to Wales.
Ian Paisley's stepping down because he's 82, not because he's being ousted. And as a member of the largest Plaid branch in Wales I can tell you that there is as yet little or no evidence of any discontent with the One Wales coalition, despite the fact that many here were in favour of the Rainbow.
Personally I'm looking forward to witnessing the Labour leadership contest when it comes. I just don't see any reason why Labour would want it to happen this year instead of next year, other than the desire of a devosceptic minority to see the One Wales coalition flounder.
And despite Labour's woes in the local elections, I am not convinced that Rhodri Morgan has somehow suddenly become so unpopular that he needs to be pushed when he's already going in 12 months time.
Poll Result
