London-centric Leighton

Henry Jones Davies, publisher of the magazine Cambria, has responded to Leighton Andrews' recent demand that he apologise for claiming that Rhondda schoolchildren were forced to turn out “North Korean-style” during a visit to the area by Prince William in May.

Cambria’s publisher said today: “This is the typical sort of impudent response from a breed of London-centric politicians who fall over themselves in sycophantic frenzy to kow-tow to the British establishment whenever and wherever possible. Presumably they do so in the hope of being tossed some meaningless bauble of an honour when they have fawned enough.

They have little understanding of Welsh history and even less respect for it. Devolution is, as Ron Davies so rightly said, a process - not an event. The inexorable development of that process - now forging ahead - will lead, inevitably, to full self-government - independence - for Wales, and the attainment of a sovereignty which will belong to the Welsh nation and to it alone. Young people in Wales, and this will include, when they are old enough to speak for themselves, the young people of the Rhondda, are not remotely concerned with the trappings of monarchy and all the paraphernalia of patronage and condescension that goes with it. Their loyalty is to their country and they are becoming aware of a new reality: the bright future and the dignity that independence will bring.”

It's International, but it isn't Velvet

Wales and Israel

Oh dear. Dafydd Elis-Thomas' position as Llywydd was already being questioned. To be frank it's very hard to see how he can continue in that role.

It's a very strange experience to find myself in agreement with Leighton Andrews, but let's step back a bit and look at what has happened. As an AM Dafydd Elis-Thomas has every right to express his criticisms of the Israeli government, however he is not any old AM. He's the Llywydd. There are aspects to the role that resemble the office of a head of state in many countries; the Llywydd is (or should be) in many ways to the Senedd what a head of state is to a nation: its representative and its ambassador. As such, surely it is (or should be) against protocol for the Senedd's 'leader' to be discourteous to the State of Israel's representative in the UK?

United Nations

Like Guerrilla Welsh-Fare, I'm somewhat bemused by Lib Dem AM Peter Black's claim that having a Welsh representative in the UN is ridiculous. "Wales does have a seat at the UN through the UK" comments Peter on the Guerrilla Welsh-Fare blog, a statement that can only be described as Conservative. Obviously Peter does not take Wales and its role in the worls as seriously as Plaid Cymru members -and now Labour- do.

Blogmarole

I see Leighton Andrews is continuing his one-blog protest against the Assembly Commission. Well, at least it has given him something to blog about for a change. Unfortunately both he and Huw Lewis don't seem to grab the context of the Assembly Commission's guidelines, which follow those of Westminster, namely that online party politics is not to be funded by public money. It is funded by political parties, or by the politicians themselves. Making comparisons with communist era censorship is no more acceptable than making similarly disproportionate comparisons with nazi Germany would be.

Blog censorship? Not really

Huw Lewis, Leighton Andrews and Bethan Jenkins are all kicking up a fuss about an email they received yesterday entitled "GUIDANCE FOR MEMBERS ON WEBSITES FUNDED THROUGH THE OFFICE COSTS ALLOWANCE".

"Censorship!" they cry. Well, not really.

As Betsan reminds us, they could always follow Paul Flynn's advice and pay for their websites out of their own pockets. There are plenty of free blogging services, and on their wages they have more than enough money to pay for their own private websites, so frankly I have little sympathy for cries of "censorship". They get enough expenses paid by the taxpayer as it is.

Nice try but no cigar

Leighton Andrews seems to believe that Adam Price MP's and Jill Evans MEP's absence on Plaid Cymru's Party Political Broadcast indicates that the party is embarrassed by recent remarks made this month by these two politicians.

Funny that Leighton, because the PPB was in fact posted on YouTube last month. So much for that theory then.

Cabinet Stars

Here's what the stars have to say about some of the ministers in our new cabinet:

Rhodri Morgan: Libra Pros: Diplomaitic and urbane. Romantic and charming. Easygoing and sociable. Idealistic and peaceable.
Cons: Indecisive and changeable. Gullible and easily infuenced. Flirtatious and self-indulgent.
They have good critical faculty and are able to stand back and look impartially at matters which call for an impartial judgment to be made on them. But they do not tolerate argument from anyone who challenges their opinions, for once they have reached a conclusion, its truth seems to them self-evident; and among their faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval.
Ieuan Wyn Jones & Jocelyn Davies: Gemini Pros: Adaptable and versatile. Communicative and witty. Intellectual and eloquent. Youthful and lively.
Cons: Nervous and tense. Superficial and inconsistent. Cunning and inquisitive.
Gemini, the sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. On the one hand it produces the virtue of versatility, and on the other the vices of two-facedness and flightiness.
Andrew Davies & Edwina Hart: Taurus Pros: Patient and reliable. Warmhearted and loving. Persistent and determined. Placid and security loving.
Cons: Jealous and possessive. Resentful and inflexible. Self-indulgent and greedy.
The Taurean's characteristics are solidity, practicality, extreme determination and strength of will - no one will ever drive them, but they will willingly and loyally follow a leader they trust. On rare occasions a Taurean may be obstinately and exasperatingly self-righteous, unoriginal, rigid, ultraconservative, argumentative, querulous bores, stuck in a self-centered rut.
Rhodri Glyn Thomas & Carwyn Jones: Aries Pros: Adventurous and energetic. Pioneering and courageous. Enthusiastic and confident. Dynamic and quick-witted.
Cons: Selfish and quick-tempered. Impulsive and impatient. Foolhardy and daredevil.
The young ram is adventurous, ambitious, impulsive, enthusiastic and full of energy. The Arian is a pioneer both in thought and action, very open to new ideas and a lover of freedom. They welcome challenges and will not be diverted from their purpose except by their own impatience, which will surface if they don't get quick results.
They may be unwilling to obey or submit to directions for which they can see no reason, or with which they disagree. They are much concerned with self, both positively and negatively - self-reliant but also self centered (sometimes) and concerned with their own personal advancement and physical satisfaction. Their immense energy makes them aggressive and restless, argumentative occasionally, headstrong, quick tempered, easily offended and capable of holding grudges if they feel themselves affronted.

Elin Jones: Virgo Pros: Modest and shy. Meticulous and reliable. Practical and diligent. Intelligent and analytical.
Cons: Fussy and a worrier. Overcritical and harsh. Perfectionist and conservative.
sometimes thought of as a potentially creative girl, delicately lovely; sometimes as a somewhat older woman, intelligent but rather pedantic and spinsterish. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgoan preciseness, refinement, fastidious love of cleanliness, hygiene and good order, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are usually observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient, practical supporters of the status quo, and tend toward conservatism in all departments of life. On the surface they are emotionally cold, and sometimes this goes deeper, for their habit of suppressing their natural kindness may in the end cause it to atrophy, with the result that they shrink from committing themselves to friendship, make few relationships, and those they do make they are careful to keep superficial.

Leighton Andrews: Leo Pros: Generous and warmhearted. Creative and enthusiastic. Broad-minded and expansive. Faithful and loving.
Cons: Pompous and patronizing. Bossy and interfering. Dogmatic and intolerant.
In grandeur of manner, splendor of bearing and magnanimity of personality, they are the monarch's among humans as the lion is king of beasts. They are ambitious, courageous, dominant, strong willed, positive, independent, self-confident there is no such a word as doubt in their vocabularies. Those who are devout may become very obstinate in upholding traditional beliefs and will cling tenaciously, but with complete sincerity, to practices and doctrines which liberal thinkers regard as absurdly out-of-date. Their faults can be as large in scale as their virtues, and an excessively negative Leonian can be one of the most unpleasant human beings imaginable, displaying extreme arrogance, autocratic pride, haughtiness, and excessive hastiness of temper. If jealously suspicious of rivals, they will not hesitate to use cunning, lies and trickery to discredit them. Self-centeredness, greed for flattery, boastfulness, and bombast, pomposity, snobbish superiority, and overbearing, and intolerant disdain of underlings; to whom they will nevertheless delegate the carrying out of minor details in their grandiose schemes, and from whom they are not above borrowing immoderately if an occasion necessitates it.

Rhondda TV

Previously I published a post on Webcasts and Wales, asking when would WAG and the Welsh political parties launch there own YouTube sites.

Cymuned already have a YouTube site. Now Leighton Andrews has used YouTube to launch his Rhondda TV. It's not a WAG site, nor even a Llafur Cymru site, but perhaps Rhodri Morgan should give Leighton the task of overseeing the creation of a WAG YouTube site during the Summer. It ain't rocket science, and it's free.

Meanwhile, despite the conclusion of a coalition deal, the Welsh Labour website has yet to reappear.

Reluctant of Rhondda

Penfold Leighton Andrews in his latest blogpost voices his reluctance about a red-green deal, despite appearing enthusiastic about it in the Chamber:

"My preference would have been for Labour to form an alliance with the Liberal Democrats. However, the Liberals placed themselves in such an impossible negotiating position that that option does not exist.

"The only choice facing Labour therefore is to agree a joint programme with Plaid Cymru, or go into Opposition and see Wales run by a coalition of Plaid Cymru, the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

"Reluctantly, therefore, I think the only option before us at the present time is a coalition in the Assembly with Plaid Cymru.

"I am not a nationalist and I am opposed to nationalism and to the idea of ‘independence’ for Wales. We will have no truck with independence in the coalition government"

F*** me, Leighton Andrews speaking Welsh in the Senedd. I feel dirty now.

Penfold blogs again

Newbie Labour party-line blogger Clear Red Water concurs with Ernest Penfold Leighton Andrews' astute observation that Labour Nationalists are actually Unionists. And there we were thinking all along that they wanted independence! Thanks for clearing that up Penfold!

NB For readers of a slightly more elevated intelligence but are nonetheless unfamiliar with the Welsh Labour Party, Labour Nats are the ones who actually like being Welsh, whereas the Labour Jihadists are the other ones

Lookalike Leighton

Penfold
Ernest Penfold

Wikipedia: "A timid, bespectacled hamster, and sidekick to DangerMouse. Once, he won third place in a Penfold look-a-like contest. In the first episode, it is mentioned that his codename is "Jigsaw" because he often "goes to pieces". Sometimes referred to as the "Hopeless Hamster" by the enemy".

Mikipedia: "A turgid, bespectacled wanker, and sidekick to NatWatch. Once, he won third place in a Leighton Andrews look-a-like contest. In the first episode, it is mentioned that his codename is "Anus" because he often "craps on everything". Sometimes referred to as the "Witless Wanker" by everyone except David Taylor".

Fat cat found sulking

Leighton "Nat Watch" Andrews

Blamerbell, one of the few bloggers who actually bothers to read Leighton "Nat Watch" Andrews' blog, reveals that the Anti-Nat himself is not too impressed with the failure of the Welsh blogosphere to adulate him.

"Welsh bloggers need better sources if they are going to make waves..." sulks the wealthy businessman. Like what? Your beloved NatWatch? the Leighton Andrews Appreciation Society? David Taylor?

And he wonders why everyone loves winding him up.

Labour civil war as party heads for meltdown

Leighton Andrews
Leighton "Nat Watch" Andrews

Welsh Labour are in chaos as the division between its nationalist and unionist camps turns into a pitched battle between leadership hopefuls Carwyn "Welsh Nat" Jones and Leighton "Nat Watch" Andrews. Rhodri "Two Monkeys" Morgan attempts to see no evil and hear no evil, but even though he has yet to resign his own party have long since attended his wake and his party's negative campaign -brainchild of fat cat Leighton Andrews no less- turns in on itself. As fellow blogger Blamerbell mentioned yesterday, Leighton Andrews and his sidekick David Taylor have long been aknowledged -albeit unofficialy- as the authors of a dirty tricks campaign in cyberspace, and there is speculation as to whether or not this campaign includes the newly arisen and already infamous Welsh Guido (which started posting in February). Whether that is the case or not certain members of Labour's nationalist camp are already making noises as to outing Andrews and Taylor as authors of the racist Nat Watch blog (which has been dormant since January) so as to pre-empt the official launch of Leighton's leadership campaign.
